The Asia-Pacific Business Forum has been held annually since 2004. APBF 2022 will be held virtually on 26 August 2022 in cooperation with the ESCAP Sustainable Business Network (ESBN). The Forum is expected to witness the participation of 300-500 multi-stakeholders, in particular governments, business, civil society and academics from all over the region to foster dialogue and identify innovative solutions and recommendations to advance the Asia Pacific Green Deal for Business in the region.

Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana was appointed Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) on 13 September 2018.

Prior to joining ESCAP, Ms. Alisjahbana was Professor of Economics at Universitas Padjadjaran in Bandung, Indonesia, a position she assumed in 2005. She joined Universitas Padjadjaran as a lecturer in 1988. Since 2016, she has served as Director for the Center for Sustainable Development Goals Studies at Universitas Padjadjaran and Vice Chair of the Indonesian Academy of Sciences.

She also serves on the Governing Board of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), and member of the Indonesian Academy of Sciences (Akademi Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia - AIPI), the Forum of Statistics Community (Forum Masyarakat Statistik or Advisory Council of the Indonesian Statistics), the International Advisory Board of the Bulletin of Indonesian Economic Studies and Council Member of the Regional Science Association International (RSAI).

From 2009 to 2014, she was Minister of National Development Planning and the Head of the National Development Planning Agency (BAPPENAS), Indonesia. She served as Co-chair of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation from 2012 to 2014. From 2009 to 2014, she was Alternate Governor of the World Bank and Alternate Governor of the Asian Development Bank representing the government of Indonesia. In 2016, she was a member of the High Level Independent Team of Advisors to support the ECOSOC Dialogue on the longer term positioning of the United Nations Development System in the context of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development.

Ms. Alisjahbana has been involved in various research projects and consultancies to the United Nations University/Institute for Advanced Study in Tokyo, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), Australia, the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), the European Commission, and the International Labor Organization (ILO).

Ms. Alisjahbana earned her Bachelor degree in Economics and Development Studies from Universitas Indonesia, Indonesia, a Masters degree in Economics from Northwestern University, USA and a Ph.D in Economics from University of Washington, USA. She was awarded the Mahaputra Adipradana Order (Bintang Mahaputra Adipradana) from the Republic of Indonesia, honorary brevet from the Indonesian Navy and honorary flight wing from the Indonesian Air Force.

Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, has joined NESDB since 1979 which is considered to be the key agency on planning and formulation of development strategies in Thailand. Throughout his years in NESDB, Arkhom has held series of directorship and taken a lead role in many infrastructure development projects and formulation of vital development strategies which proven to be crucial for the nation to achieve the sustainable development goals. As top executive of NESDB, Arkhom has long been following the philosophy of sufficiency economy by heart and using it as a foundation in development strategy in light of shaping the nation toward more balanced development.

Arkhom also played vital roles as board of directors in many nation’s lead state-own-enterprises until August 2014 prior to the appointment as Deputy Minister of Transport. These included PTT Public Company Limited, Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited, and Thai Smile Airways Company Limited. His roles also extend toward the international community through his extensive involvement in neighboring countries development cooperation especially in cross-border infrastructure projects to connect all the Greater Mekong Subregional Economic Cooperation (GMS) countries which later lead to the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity. In his capacity of being Minister of Transport, he was able to change the future of transport infrastructure by completing almost all projects especially the mass transit system in Bangkok, the inter-city double track railways, the high speed rail, all airports, roads and highways, seaports, as well as the gave more focus on the issues of road safety. The most outstanding task was to lift the red flag in 2017 that was imposed by the ICAO in 2015.

Born on 25 September 1956. 1978 received Bachelor degree in Economics from Thammasat University, Thailand; 1983 Master degree in Development Economics from Williams College, United States; 1979 joined NESDB as Industrial Planner; 2000 Senior Adviser in Policy and Plan, NESDB; 2004 Deputy Secretary-General, NESDB; 2010 Secretary General, NESDB.

In July 2014, Arkhom was appointed as a member of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA). Later he resigned from NLA and was appointed as Deputy Minister of Transport from 30 August 2014 – 19 August 2015 and became Minister of Transport since 19 August 2015 – 16 July 2019.

Assistant Professor Dr. Tavida Kamolvej currently serves as the Deputy Governor of Bangkok in charge of Strategic and Human Resource Management, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Public Health and Medical Service, Environmental Sanitation of Bangkok. Under her supervision includes Navamindradhiraj University, and North Bangkok District Zone.

 

Prior to this, Dr. Tavida was an assistant professor of Public Policy and Administration at the Faculty of Political Science, Thammasat University, Thailand, for 24 years, and served the deanship from 2018 to May 2022. Dr. Tavida had her practices serving as disaster risk reduction and emergency management advisor to Thailand Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Ministry of Interior, and last served as the National Board of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation of Thailand. Dr. Tavida also had her works with various UN Agencies namely UNESCO, UNDP, UNDRR, and US agencies namely USTDA and USAID. Other areas of her expertise includes Policy and Strategic Analyst for Thailand Public Agencies such as Ministry of Public Health, Department of Mineral Resource, and Bangkok Metropolitan Authority. Her last appointments were with the Open Government and Participation Subcommittee for the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission, and Policy Innovation Assessor to the National Innovation Agency, Thailand.

 

Dr. Tavida received her Bachelor of Political Science (First Class Honors) and Master of Political Science from Thammasat University, Thailand, Graduate Certificate in Public Management (GCPM) from the School of Social Sciences, University of South Florida, USA, and Doctor of Philosophy in Public Administration and Public Policy (Fulbright Scholarship), School of Public and International Affairs, University of Pittsburgh, USA.

Mr. John W.H. Denton AO is the Secretary General of the International Chamber of Commerce(ICC). He is a global business leader and international advisor on policy and a legal expert on international trade and investment.

He is also a Board member of the United Nations Global Compact and Co-chair of the B20 finance and infrastructure taskforce, as well as a founding member of the Business 20 (B20), the Australia–China CEO Roundtable and UNHCR in Australia.

Mr. Denton serves on the Board of leading global infrastructure group IFM Investors. Mr. Denton is also the Chair of the Asia Pacific advisory Board of Veracity, a global advisory group based in NYC and Chair of the Moeller Institute advisory board at Cambridge University.

He co-led the Australian Government’s 2012 White Paper on “Australia in the Asian Century” and previously chaired the APEC Finance and Economics Working Group.

A former diplomat, Mr. Denton served for two decades as Partner and Chief Executive Officer of Corrs Chambers Westgarth, Australia’s leading independent law firm.

In 2015, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for his services to the business community, the arts and the rights of refugees, including as a founder of Human Rights Watch (Australia) and Teach for Australia.

Mr. Denton is an alumnus of Harvard Business School and the University of Melbourne.

Ms. Ruenvadee Suwanmongkol obtained an L.L.B (1st Class Honors, Gold Medal) from Chulalongkorn University, Barrister at Law from the Institute of Legal Education Thai Bar Association, an L.L.M (International Business Law) from Harvard Law School, Cambridge Massachusetts, and an M.B.A. from Walter A. Haas School of Business, University of California at Berkeley, USA.

Her long experience in the public sector has forged her a strong public service mindset. She has served in several key positions at the Ministry of Justice including Director-General of the Legal Execution Department and the Probation Department. Since the Secretary-General appointment in 2019, she has been working extensively to build an ecosystem that supports a sustainable capital market. She is also member of several committees, e.g., the Public Sector Development Commission, the National Reform Committee on State Administration, and the Law Development Committee.

A champion for sustainable development, ESG investment, digital transformation and the Green Economy, Dr. Lam is Chair of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific Sustainable Business Network (ESBN), and the ESBN Task Force on Sustainable and Inclusive Finance.  He is a member of the Governance Committee of the Hong Kong Growth Portfolio, and the Development Bureau Common Spatial Data Advisory Committee, of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, and Convenor of the Panel of Advisors on Building Management Disputes of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government Home Affairs Department. Mr. Kaveh Zahedi is the Deputy Executive Secretary the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP).

Prior to this, Mr. Zahedi worked at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) including as its Regional Director and Representative for Asia and the Pacific and Deputy Director of the Division of Technology, Industry and Economics, overseeing work on green economy, resource efficiency and climate change. He also set up and headed the Climate and Clean Air Coalition.

Before UNEP, Mr. Zahedi worked at an NGO as project manager for micro credit and development projects in Latin America and the Middle East.

Over two decades Mr. Zahedi has worked for the United Nations in Kenya, Mexico, UK, France and Thailand. He holds a Master’s degree from the Fletcher School, Tufts University, USA, and a BSc first class degree in Economics & Geography, from University College London.

Dr. Cheng is the Dr. S H Ho Professor of Banking and Finance. He is also the Director of the Research Centre for ESG as well as the Research Institute for Business at the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong. He is a member of the Investment Committee of the Hospital Authority Provident Fund Scheme in which he leads the effort in promoting ESG integration for an investment portfolio of about USD 8.74bil (as of March 2020). Dr. Cheng actively engages in ESG and green finance research. In addition to publishing on Green Bond, he received various research donation and grants related to ESG and financial services for a total exceeding HKD8mil.  He is also a coauthor of a book chapter titled “Fintech Unicorns” in The Palgrave Handbook of Fintech and Blockchain, 2021.

Dr. Cheng is a member of the Business Studies Assessment Panel for Competitive Research Funding Schemes for the Local Self-financing Degree Sector under the Research Grants Council (RGC). He also served as a member of the Business Studies Panel (Joint Research Schemes) for the RGC, Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal Panel, and University Council and Trustee Board of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Pension Fund. He is currently a member of the Examination Board of The Institute of Financial Planners of Hong Kong (IFPHK). Dr. Cheng has over 100 articles and books published including the Journal of Finance. Datuk William Ng has been a champion of SMEs for over 20 years in various roles as publisher, editor, committee chair, council member and simply as a voice for the SMEs when there were none. 

A serial entrepreneur, Ng founded his first business at the age of 22. He is a founder of AIC Exhibitions and Business Media International and took the companies public as Audience Analytics Limited (1AZ.SI) during the pandemic.

He obtained a diploma in accounting from LCCI and a diploma in business from Systematic at the age of 16, a higher diploma in hotel management at the age of 20 where he was valedictorian, and an executive diploma in entrepreneurship and an executive diploma in sustainability from HELP university.

Ms. Biber was previously the Chief Executive of the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and Macau, and a key player in the formation of the AustCham Greater China initiative and the development of Australian Business Asia, a group of Australian chambers of commerce and business organisations in India, China, ASEAN and North Asia. David Morris is an international consultant advising organisations on international economic cooperation, future trends, opportunities, risks, relationships and reputations. His advisory roles include: Senior Expert for China, East Asia, Australia and the Pacific, LM Prisk Political Risk & Strategic Advisory, International Advisory Board Member, World Green Organisation, Advisory Board Member, Institute for Cultural Relations Policy, Senior Research Fellow, Research Centre for Pacific Studies, Beijing Foreign Studies University, and  Academic Adviser, Research Centre for Pacific Island Countries, Liaocheng University .

Mr Morris recently represented the international organisation of Oceania, the Pacific Islands Forum, as Pacific Trade and Investment Commissioner in Beijing, and has worked to build economic cooperation in the Asia Pacific for decades as a diplomat, trade official and senior political adviser.  He also had two diplomatic postings to Europe and advised Australia on United Nations peacekeeping.  He established and was the first Executive Director of the China Studies Centre at the University of Sydney. He is currently completing a PhD, is a member of an Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Research Network on Asia-Europe economic relations, has an MBA from Henley Business School and a BA (Honours) from the University of Sydney.

Michael is an experienced company director, educator, researcher and consultant on small business issues, both in Australia and internationally. He is currently a member of the board of the Small Business Development Corporation of Western Australia, a national board member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and adjunct professor at Curtin University. Dr Schaper served as the inaugural Deputy Chair (small business) of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, where he also founded the national Small Business Commissioners Forum, and was previously the Small Business Commissioner for the Australian Capital Territory. He has also served as a director of the International COuncil for Small Business, and as foundation Professor of Small Business and Entrepreneurship at the University of Newcastle NSW. He was named "national small business champion" by the Council of Small Business of Australia in 2009.

Dr Schaper has recently completed a year-long Visiting Research Fellowship at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies-Yusof Ishak Institute in Singapore, examining SME responses to climate change in the region.

Dr Schaper holds a Doctor of Philosophy in small business management and a Master of Commerce degree from Curtin University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Australia.

Ms. Rupa Chanda is the Director of Trade, Investment and Innovation. Prior to that, she was a Professor of Economics at IIM Bangalore and the Dean of Programmes at the institute. She has worked as an Economist at the IMF and briefly served as Head, UNESCAP Subregional Office for South and South-West Asia in New Delhi. Prof. Chanda received her PhD in Economics from Columbia University and her Bachelor’s from Harvard University. She teaches Macroeconomics and International Trade and has received teaching awards. Her research interests include the WTO, trade in services, regional integration and migration. She has undertaken research and professional assignments for international and Indian organizations and has published extensively in the form of books, journal articles, book chapters, and reports. She is active professionally as a research guide, reviewer, and member of several expert committees. She was member of the WHO’s Review Committee on the functioning of the International Health Regulations (2015-16) and  the WHO’s Expert Advisory Group, International Recruitment of Health Personnel (2019-20).

Ms. Tientip Subhanij is Chief of Investment and Enterprise Development of United Nations ESCAP. She has more than 20 years of experience in macroeconomics, financial sector, international trade and investment issues. Throughout her career, she has served in several key managerial and professional positions in academia, government and private sector, including the Bank of Thailand, the Stock Exchange of Thailand, Bank for International Settlements and South East Asian Central Banks. At United Nations ESCAP, she has managed a large portfolio of work on climate finance, SME financing and infrastructure investment for a wide range of countries in Asia-Pacific region and beyond. She provided advisory services on sustainable capital market development and successfully helped the Royal Government of Bhutan issue its first-ever sovereign bond in 2020. She is a founder of the Infrastructure Financing and Public-Private Partnership Network of Asia and the Pacific and is instrumental in mobilizing private finance for sustainable development. She has published widely in the areas of macroeconomics, financial market, international finance, business and investment. Ms. Subhanij holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.
