Mr. Chair, Honorable Ministers, ladies and gentlemen,

The ongoing pandemic and climate change have further exacerbated the 17 Goals implementation in Asia and the Pacific.

Gaps in progress continue to grow wider each year, and vulnerabilities are increasing for some population groups.

The good news is that we have already recorded transformational policy measures by many of our member States and other stakeholders that we need to scale up as a region.

Countries have scaled up e-learning opportunities and are working towards ensuring gender equality and women’s empowerment through the digitalization of public services and local partnerships.

Decisionmakers have also been investing strategically to pursue socio-economic policy reforms for building sustainable economies in line with the new normal situation.

We have also seen a growing focus on climate-smart trade, investments and sustainable connectivity policies while mainstreaming digitalization.

Furthermore, a more integrated approach to nature and human health has been rolled out to create pathways in bolstering the bio-circular-green economy model and ensuring the transition to green-blue economies.

In conclusion, I urge member States to enhance regional cooperation in key areas to ensure that faster progress is made to reaching the Sustainable Development Goals and reverse the alarming trends that we have observed.

I thank you.
