To bridge the gender digital gap amid the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) East and North-East Asia Office, in cooperation with Social Development Division and Trade, Investment and Innovation Division, held an Expert Group Meeting on Gender Equality in the Technology Industry to discuss how national policies and company initiatives could accelerate the achievement of gender equality in the technology industry. The meeting was attended by various stakeholders including government representatives, the private sector, civil society organizations, academia, international organizations, etc.
During the meeting, the publication “The Future is Equal: Gender Equality in the Technology Industry” developed by ESCAP, in partnership with Korea Center for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology, Center for Gender Equality of Nagoya University and Ladies Who Tech, was launched. The report and the meeting provide useful references to member States in the region in advancing women’s rights and representation in the technology industry, thereby contributing to the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
