While rapid border closures have contained the human cost of COVID-19, the economic and social impacts of the pandemic on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) will place achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals even farther out of their reach. This year’s edition of the Asia-Pacific Countries with Special Needs Development Report spotlights how SIDS can leverage upon ocean resources to build back better. The report also puts forward policy recommendations to strengthen the fisheries and tourism sectors, which are vital drivers for sustainable development progress in small island developing States.
