Asia and the Pacific is undergoing a rapid transition towards an increase in the number and share of older persons. This leaves little time for countries to effectively address the challenges and opportunities of population ageing.

Digital innovation has emerged as a crucial tool in enabling societies to navigate the complexities of a growing number of older population, shaping and sustaining inclusive societies and accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This side event aimed to showcase good practices from countries in the region to address the challenges and opportunities of leveraging digital innovation for population ageing.

There was opening remarks by the ESCAP Deputy Executive Secretary for Programme and the Director-General of the Department of Older Persons, Thailand. A moderated panel discussion followed, including Q&A from the audience.

The anticipated outcome is an increased understanding of the interplay between sustainable development and digital innovation within the context of population ageing.

The side event was organized by the Department of Older Persons, Thailand, Australia’s eSafety Commissioner, ASK Health Asia, Singapore, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and ESCAP (Social Development Division).
