29 February 2024, 11:00 - 12:45 Ulaanbaatar Time | Open meeting

Hybrid meeting (in-person participation is by invitation only), Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar time (UTC+8)

ESCAP in partnership with the Ministry of Energy, Mongolia has developed the SDG 7 Road Map for Mongolia using the National Expert SDG Tool for Energy Planning (NEXSTEP) framework. The development process involved long-term energy and emissions modelling, multi-stakeholder consultations, analysis of existing plans and policies, and consideration of Mongolia’s development priorities.

The Road Map presents scenario-based pathways to transition the energy sector of Mongolia to achieve the targets of the Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7) and Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) by 2030. The analysis also extends to developing scenarios to transition to sustainable heating and net zero emissions by 2050.

The collaboration between ESCAP and the Ministry of Energy underscores a shared commitment to realizing the energy vision within the Sustainable Development Goals. The Road Map serves as a blueprint for Mongolia's continued prosperity, aiding its recovery from COVID-19 and setting an example for other nations seeking to develop sustainable energy solutions.

The SDG 7 Road Map will be officially launched, jointly by the Ministry of Energy, ESCAP and the UN country team in Ulaanbaatar on 29 February 2024.
