ESCAP and Government of Cambodia conducts National Consultation on Readiness to Implement Action Plan to Strengthen Regional Cooperation on Social Protection

ESCAP, together with the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation, Cambodia, conducted a National Consultation on the Readiness to to Implement Action Plan to Strengthen Regional Cooperation on Social Protection: Cambodia on Monday, 17 October 2022 in Phnom Penh.  The Consultation convened a total of 60 participants, including senior government officials from 25 key Government departments responsible for social protection policymaking, as well as key UN stakeholders on social protection from UNICEF, ILO and UNDP.

The Consultation was opened by H.E. Mr. Boros Samheng, Minister attached to the Office of the Prime Minister, Secretary of State, Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation, and Mr. Patrik Andersson, Chief, Sustainable Socioeconomic Transformations Section, Social Development Division, ESCAP. Through the Consultation, the Government identified progress made and actions to achieve a more inclusive and comprehensive social protection system. Recommendations on ways to implement the Action Plan were reviewed. The stocktaking report will be finalized and launched by ESCAP and the Government of Cambodia as well as other relevant partners. The report will feed into a regional review of the implementation of the Action Plan to strengthen social protection systems in Asia and the Pacific.
