The side event on "High frequency data collection using telephone interviews and real-time reporting: Tested methodologies and country experiences" was co-organized by UNICEF, National Statistical Office of Mongolia and World Bank during the Committee on Statistics, Eighth Session.

The event was held on 23 August 2022, from 16:00 to 17:00 hours, as a Hybrid meeting at the United Nations Conference Centre (MR-G), Bangkok, Thailand.

Key questions to be discussed in the side event:

  1. The methodology of conducting household surveys over the phone - the non-traditional data source becoming traditional data sources?
  2. The significance of surveys conducted over the phone in national statistical systems in a rapidly changing world
  3. How do real-time reporting of phone survey results contribute to inclusive policy and decision-making and its impact on national statistical systems - challenges and benefits
  4. Ethics, equity, and inclusion in surveys conducted over the phone.

Mr. Batdavaa has been appointed as Chairman of the National Statistics Office of Mongolia in Jan 2021. Before his appointment, he served as the Director-General of Research and Statistics Department, Markets Department, and Balance of Payments Research and Statistics Division of the Bank of Mongolia.  

He earned his master’s degree in Banking and Finance from the Luxembourg School of Finance, University of Luxembourg, Luxembourg. He also has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Ming Chuan University, Taiwan, China.

Mr. Batdavaa earned Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder in September 2019.

Mr. Tunde holds a B.Sc (Hons) in Mathematics and Statistics from University of Lagos, and other professional certificates in Poverty Policy and Practice, Data Analysis, Statistical computation and report generation etc.

Talip Kilic is a Senior Economist at the World Bank Development Data Group; a member the Living Standards Measurement Study (LSMS) team; and a core team member for the World Development Report 2021 on Data for Better Lives. His research focuses on poverty, agriculture, and gender in low- and middle-income countries, as well as survey methodology to improve the quality, timeliness and policy-relevance of household and farm surveys. In the latter line of work, objective measurement, including through sensor deployment; research on policy implications of non-classical measurement error in survey data; and integration with geospatial, census, administrative and mobile data are of interest to him.

Tatjana Karaulac is a Statistics and Monitoring Specialist at the Data Collection Unit, Data & Analytics Section, at UNICEF HQ in New York, in charge of coordinating the MICS Plus initiative. Tatjana joined UNICEF in 2013 and worked on coordinating and technical support for designing, implementing, and analyzing the Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) in ECAR countries and DPR Korea. Before joining UNICEF, she worked for six years in the government sector on employment, monitoring and evaluation, macroeconomic research and forecasting, and as a Teaching Assistant in Statistics at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Belgrade.
