27 October 2021, 13:15 - 14:45 UTC +7 | Open meeting

In line with the need expressed by network members at the 6th Member Meeting of the Regional Council of Agricultural Machinery Associations in Asia and the Pacific (ReCAMA) held in 2020, a ‘ReCAMA Workshop on Trade Procedures and Practices for Agricultural Machinery’ will be organized to share relevant information for promoting regional trade of agricultural machinery in the region. In addition, participants will have an opportunity to take a digital tour of the China International Agricultural Machinery Exhibition 2021 to virtually see and learn about various types of new and innovative machinery and technologies.

The Workshop will be co-organized by ESCAP’s Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (CSAM), China Agricultural Machinery Distribution Association, Association of Indonesian Agriculture Machinery, and Thai Society of Agricultural Engineering virtually via Zoom on 27 October 2021 at 14:30-15:45 Beijing time (GMT+8).

Apart from a few countries which have a well-developed industry for agricultural machinery manufacturing, the majority of the countries in the Asia-Pacific region have limited manufacturing of machinery and equipment and rely predominantly on imports to meet their domestic needs. This lends importance to measures to facilitate more smooth and integrated trade in agricultural machinery in order to support sustainable agricultural development and food security as envisaged under Sustainable Development Goal 2 (ending hunger and malnutrition). To support such measures, it is important to enable a better understanding of the procedures and practices applicable to trade in agricultural machinery in different countries as this can assist both machinery importers and exporters.

ReCAMA aims to promote sustainable agricultural mechanization in Asia and the Pacific through strengthening the capacity of national agricultural machinery associations, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and information, and enhancing collaboration and closer business connections among national associations and their members. As of date, ReCAMA has 21 Member associations from 15 countries.

Five trainings and study tours for agricultural machinery manufacturers and distributors under ReCAMA have been successfully organized since 2015, focusing on whole process mechanization; conservation agriculture and transplanting; precision agriculture and harvesting technologies of rice and maize; automation, irrigation (solar power), and plant protection (with UAV); and climate-smart mechanization, whole value chain mechanization and horticulture mechanization. These events were attended by approx. 300 participants from around 19 Member associations. The upcoming Workshop will be the next in this series of events.
