25 May 2021

UNCC
Bangkok, Thailand

By invitation only

The ESCAP secretariat is kindly inviting delegations of member and associate member States to the first drafting group meeting for developing the “Action Plan 2022-2026 of the Asia-Pacific Information Superhighway (AP-IS)”. The meeting will be held in the United Nations Conference Center (UNCC) on 25 May 2021 in hybrid mode (virtual for international representatives and in-person for Bangkok based representatives).

The key objective of this meeting is to develop an action plan for the next phase of implementation of the Master Plan of AP-IS for 2022–2026 (tentatively called as the 2nd action plan of AP-IS 2022-2026), along with the development of draft matrix of actions.

At the Third Session of the Committee on Information and Communications Technology, Science, Technology and Innovation (CICTSTI-3) held in August 2020, the Committee recommended that the secretariat set up a drafting group as part of the Asia-Pacific Information Superhighway Steering Committee to develop an action plan for the next phase of implementation of the Master Plan for the Asia-Pacific Information Superhighway 2022–2026, for consideration and adoption by the Committee at its fourth session in 2022.[1]

Participating delegations of member and associate member States will consult, identify and finalize a draft action plan, which contains a set of prioritized actions. The 2nd action plan of AP-IS 2022-2026 will act as a regional blueprint for cooperative actions of member and associate member States in the Asia-Pacific region for advancing digital connectivity to bridge the digital divide, as well as promoting digital transformation and digital data towards an inclusive digital economy.
