North and Central Asia countries are rich with energy sources. In the years after independence, the expansion of conventional energy sources and the initiation of market reforms allowed countries in the subregion to establish a stable energy supply and benefit from energy trade. However, challenges remain in terms of energy efficiency, energy security and diversification. In the recent decade, energy transition plans have been set in the national strategies of North and Central Asia countries. Sustainable and clean energy development is imperative in these plans.

The Expert Group Meeting on Sustainable and Clean Energy in North and Central Asia will review and discuss the initial findings of a working paper of the same title. The working paper examines the key determinants of clean energy in North and Central Asia and analyzes the relationship between clean energy and the Sustainable Development Goals. Based on the results and findings, the paper provides policy recommendations for sustainable energy transformation tailored to the subregion.

The expert group meeting gathers experts and relevant stakeholders on the discussion topic and is expected to:

  • evaluate the underlying conceptual framework proposed on sustainable and clean energy as a driver for achieving the 2030 Agenda;
  • provide expert opinion on the determinants and interlinkages of sustainable and clean energy in North and Central Asia; and
  • discuss emerging issues and policy considerations for the achievement of sustainable and clean energy in North and Central Asia.

**********

  • оценить основополагающую теоретическую структуру, предложенную для развития устойчивой и чистой энергетики в целях реализации Повестки дня в области устойчивого развития на период до 2030 года;
  • предоставить экспертное мнение об определяющих факторах и взаимосвязях устойчивой и чистой энергетики в Северной и Центральной Азии;
