The Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, will brief the Permanent Representatives of the Asia-Pacific Member States of the United Nations on the work of ESCAP in supporting its members in accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The briefing will also share the outcomes of the 77th session of the Commission and the 8th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development. Additionally, in recognizing the unprecedented and globally synchronized health, economic, social and environmental crises caused by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, ESCAP has developed key policy documents to advise countries of the region to build back better and emerge from the pandemic more prosperous, sustainable, resilient and unified, including the Asia and the Pacific SDG Progress Report 2021, the Theme Study for the 77th Commission session and the Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific 2021.

The policy recommendations are also aligned to support the implementation of regional strategies outlined in the ASEAN-UN Plan of Action 2021-2025 and the ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework.

ESCAP continues to work directly with the governments of Southeast Asia in building an inclusive, resilient, and sustainable region.
