5th Ministerial Conference on Environment and
Development, Seoul, Republic of Korea, 24 to 29 March 2005
Ministers to discuss how to ensure economic
growth in Asia and the Pacific does not occur at the expense
of environmental sustainability
BANGKOK (United Nations Information Services)
--- The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia
and the Pacific (UNESCAP) will convene the Fifth Ministerial
Conference on Environment and Development in Asia and the Pacific
(MCED 2005) to be hosted by the government of Republic of Korea
in Seoul from 24 to 29 March 2005.
“The theme of the Conference, achieving
environmentally sustainable economic growth in Asia and the
Pacific, will position national leaders from UNESCAP’s
62 members and associate members to make concrete and strategic
commitments towards sustainable development across the region,”
said Mr. Kim Hak-Su, UNESCAP Executive Secretary. He added that
at the Conference, ministers and senior officials in both environmental
and economic portfolios will consider how best to meet this
challenge.
The Conference will include many side events
including a Civil Society Forum, Eminent Scientists Symposium,
Private Sector Forum, Multi-stakeholders Forum-APFED, Water
Forum, and Environmental Technology Forum.
