Long-term support needed, UN Secretary-General says in message to fundraiser concert in Bangkok

Following is the text of today’s video message by Secretary-General Kofi Annan for the MTV/UNICEF fundraiser concert for victims of the tsunami, in Bangkok:

Dear friends,

The tsunami disaster cut deep into the heart of our common humanity.

I just visited the countries worst affected, and I saw scenes of unimaginable sadness.

I also saw the heroic efforts of communities that are trying to rebuild.

They will need our support for the long term.

Through MTV Asia Aid, you can help them. Most of the funds will go to UNICEF, the UN children’s agency.

Thank you for giving so generously. Together, we will send a message of hope.
