Exports of Services and Economic
Growth in Developing Countries.
UNCTAD.
UNCTAD/DITC/TNCD/MISC/2003/6. June 2004.
Available on-line (PDF-Format, 45 pages,
2,310 Kb)
The report describes major trends in international
trade in services during the last two
decades and explores quantitatively the
nexus between GDP growth and service exports
of developing countries and countries
with economies in transition. According
to the statistical data relating to services
trade, the report finds that services
exports have been the most dynamic component
of world trade during that period, and
that the market share of developing countries
was also on the rise. However, the slow-down
in world trade in services experienced
in the late 1990s resulted in the slower
growth rates in exports and imports of
services by developing countries, which
adversely affected their development prospects.
