Harmonized Development of Legal and
Regulatory Systems for Electronic Commerce
in Asia and the Pacific

Follow-up activities

Capacity Building for Harmonized Development of E-commerce Legal Systems in Asia and the Pacific

The Roundtable on Capacity Building Needs for E-commerce Legal System Development in Asia and the Pacific (9 July 2004) noted that law faculties and lawyers willing to participate pro bono in capacity building activities may serve as an important resource in the delivery of the activities described in phase II and III of the technical assistance project framework adopted during the Conference. To help identify qualified individuals who would be willing to contribute their time and efforts pro-bono, one of the expert conference participant launched The Technology Law and World Economic Development Project in July 2004 (click here for more information).

Information note about e-commerce legal issues and related legislation in the Asia-Pacific region

As a follow-up activity to the Regional Expert Conference on "Harmonized Development of Legal and Regulatory Systems for Electronic Commerce in Asia and the Pacific: Current Challenges and Needs" held in Bangkok (Thailand) from 7 to 9 July 2004, and to promote the knowledge sharing among member countries, UNESCAP has prepared an information note about e-commerce legal issues. It comprises of four parts, the first of which gives a brief summary on the reasons and the importance to have specific regulations related to e-commerce. The two following parts compile a list of current laws related to e-commerce in the Asia-Pacific region, presented in a table format and as a list of reference providing Internet sources. In order to give further information and to enable further research on this topic, the fourth part provides some useful links, especially of international organizations active in this sector.
