PARIS21/UNESCAP High-Level Forum on Strategic Planning in Statistics for East and North-East Asian Countries
Ulaanbaatar, 9-11 October 2006
Last update: 14 December 2006
In line with the Marrakech Action Plan for Statistics and its call for all low-income countries to have a National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) by 2006, Partnership in Statistics for Development in the 21 st Century (PARIS21) and the Statistics Division of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) co-organized a series of four High-Level Forums on Strategic Planning in Statistics for Asian countries, funded by a UNDP-managed Japanese trust fund.
The High-Level Forum for East and North-East Asian countries was held from 9 to 11 October 2006 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The objectives of the Forum were:
- to assess the current status of strategic statistical planning in the sub-region;
- to identify the successes and constraints being experienced in implementing existing plans and
- to consider solutions to those constraints and practical next steps.
Prior to the Forum in Ulaanbaatar, similar meetings were held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, for South Asia; in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, for Central Asia; and in Bangkok, Thailand, for South-East Asia.
UNESCAP and PARIS21 collaborated with the National Statistical Office of Mongolia in the organization of the Forum.
