The Statistics Division of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), in partnership with the Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), organized a workshop on statistics for monitoring the achievement of the MDGs on 31 July to 2 August 2006 at the United Nations Conference Center in Bangkok, Thailand.

The workshop was organized to gather high-level officials from national statistical bodies of all Asia and Pacific member countries and international statistical agencies to examine data issues in monitoring MDG indicators and to develop sustainable strategies for data collection and coordination amongst national and international agencies.
