Investment opportunities and challenges in

the district of Nagapattinam

12 March 2008

This workshop, co-organized with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), attracted 70 participants from government, business and civil society groups from the district as well as from the rest of the state.

The objectives of the workshop were:

  • To review the current investment climate in this district, and to propose investment promotion strategies to the Government.
  • To promote specific investment proposals through presentations and networking.

A background paper, prepared by the organizers, was presented at the initial session to review the current economic structure and identify the most important constraints for private sector development. Specific business proposals were presented by industrialists and openly discussed.

The recommendations from this workshop can be extended to other districts suffering similar problems in India and beyond.
