Meeting of Eminent Experts in Preparation for the Third Ministerial Conference on Space Technology Applications for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific, 2007.

This meeting was convened and hosted by UNESCAP, as part of the region's preparatory actions towards the Third Ministerial Conference on Space Science and Technology Applications for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific, to be held in Putrajaya , Malaysia on 5-10 February 2007.
The meeting of around forty participants featured presentations by and discussions among invited experts in information and communication technologies and in space technology applications. In particular it considered how the forthcoming Ministerial Conference might reflect recent internationally agreed development objectives accepted at various global fora including the September 2000 United Nations Millennium Summit , the September 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development , the November 2005 World Summit on the Information Society , and the January 2005 Hyogo Declaration from the World Conference on Disaster Reduction .
The meeting was also convened in order to identify and study development priorities made possible and timely due to the convergence of space technology and ICT, which are of interest to countries in the region, and which are particularly suitable for regional cooperation.
