Knowledge Sharing through Community-based E-Learning
Facilities in Rural Areas
The project is a follow-up activity of the previous project
entitled “Promotion of distance learning and service networks for
development in China and other countries.” The project will utilize
the existing “e-learning and service networks for knowledge sharing”,
developed by the Tsinghua University, that provide e-learning opportunities
through “Education Aiding the Poor” learning centres.
The project will: (a) review the status of community-based
e-learning facilities supported by educational institutions that are being
used for knowledge sharing for rural communities; (b) review the status of
multi-purpose community e-centres that provide e-learning and other services
to rural communities; (c) identify good practices of rural ICT services; (d)
share information and good practices of rural ICT services through a
regional workshop; and (e) promote
knowledge sharing services and network in rural communities.
Objectives
The main goal of the project is to enhance access to information and
knowledge of rural communities to improve their productivity and quality of
life. The project aims to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and
networking in rural areas through the use of ICT by utilizing the
community-based e-learning facilities, which provide relevant information
and knowledge pertaining to key areas of socio-economic development such as
education, employment, health and gender.
