Regional Meeting on Effective Design and Delivery of
Rural Community ICT Services

Background Documentations

The meeting was the final activity of the project entitled “Capacity development for effective design and delivery of rural community ICT services”, supported by the United Nations and the Government of Malaysia.

Objective
The objectives of the meeting were to review the draft guidebook on ICT applications, share experiences in rural ICT services, and make recommendations for improvement of the guidebook. The guidebook identifies guiding principles and fundamental requirements for the establishment of rural community ICT services. A particular focus of the Workshop discussion was on improving the sustainability, impact and effectiveness of rural community ICT services in the region.

Participants
The Meeting was attended by 32 local and international participants from various government agencies and non-governmental organizations. In addition, there were three resource persons from Malaysia, two from Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China, and one from India to share their experiences.

Output
A guidebook on developing community e-centres in rural areas: based on the Malaysian experience.
