Framework for Regional Cooperation on Space Technology Supported Disaster Reduction Strategies in Asia and the Pacific

The Regional Working Group on Space Science and Technology Applications
[SSTA]

The Regional Working Group on Space Sciences and Technology Applications has the major objective of developing a self-sustaining mechanism for promoting regional cooperation on space sciences and technology applications for sustainable development and provides a forum for promoting technology transfer and exchange of information and experience among participating countries through sharing of information, implementing cooperative projects, and participating in workshops, seminars and training programmes. The Working Group is implementing bilateral and subregional cooperative projects in space technology applications.

Each member country of the Regional Working Group on Space Sciences and Technology Applications may have up to three national contact points representing government, industry and academia, including heads of national agencies coordinating space sciences and technology applications. The national contact points are nominated by the national focal point for RESAP or by the national coordinating organization, and act under the general coordination of the national focal point for RESAP.

China currently host the Coordination Office of the Regional Working Group on Space Science and Technology Applications for the two-year term 2003-2005, at the Center for Space Science and Applied Research (CSSAR), Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing. The CSSAR has established a web-site for the RWG on SSTA that is located at http://www.cssar.ac.cn/ssta/ssta.htm

The Deputy Director of the CSSAR takes the role of the Coordinator of the group. His office address is as follows:
