Framework for Regional Cooperation on Space Technology Supported Disaster Reduction Strategies in Asia and the Pacific

Meteorological Satellite Applications and Natural Hazards Monitoring
[MetSat]

The Regional Working Group on Meteorological Satellite Applications and Natural Hazards Monitoring has the major objective of developing a self-sustaining mechanism for promoting regional cooperation on meteorological satellite applications and natural hazards monitoring. The Regional Working Group also provides a forum for promoting technology transfer and exchange of information and experience among participating countries through sharing of information, conducting cooperative projects and participating in training programmes.

The national contact points of the Regional Working Group on Meteorological Satellite Applications and Natural Hazards Monitoring are nominated by the national focal point for RESAP or by the national coordinating organization, and act under the general coordination of the national focal point for RESAP. Each member country of the Regional Working Group may have up to three national contact points representing government, industry and academia, including heads of national agencies coordinating on meteorological satellite applications and natural hazards monitoring.

Since October 2004, Malaysia is hosting the Coordination Office of the Regional Working Group on Meteorological Satellite Applications and Natural Hazards Monitoring for the two-year term 2005-2006. The Director Genearal of the Malaysian Meteorological Department takes the role of the Coordinator of the Regional Working Group. His office address is as follows:
