Approaches to Comprehensive National Policies on Ageing: Government-NGO Cooperation: [ST/ESCAP/1805] 1997
The search for sustainable solutions to many economic and social the world's rush for economic growth and prosperity is straining the resources of governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), private enterprise and the public at large. It is generally expected that the region's already overburdened governments will not be able to deal successfully with all the issues accompanying the demographic revolution. Instead, the emerging issues related to the rapid ageing of populations in Asia and the Pacific must be managed by all concerned through concerted efforts by governments, NGOs, communities and families. The Regional Seminar on Government-NGO Cooperation for Older Persons convened by ESCAP in Macao, China, from 16 to 19 June 1997, adopted a set of recommendations on measures for enhancing cooperation between governments and other entities on behalf of older persons. The purpose of this publication is to disseminate those recommendations as widely as possible to all involved.
