PROJECTS

  • UNESCAP's population programme disseminates relevant policy information mainly through a number of publications and supports national capacity building through technical assistance and advisory services to member and associate member countries.

  • Asian And Pacific Decade of Disabled Persons 2003-2012
UNESCAP has organized a series of activities on the elaboration of a comprehensive and integral international convention on the protection and promotion of the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities as well as workshops and meetings on policy measures, information networking and promoting awareness.

  • The Section organizes periodic regional seminars and expert group meetings on follow-up to the World Summit for Social Development held at Copenhagen in 1995. It assists national capacity building through training courses and workshops, advisory services and information dissemination. The Section overseas UNESCAP activities in such related areas as the family, human rights and involvement of civil society organizations.

  • UNESCAP focuses on the development and strengthening of policies required to address population ageing. It assists Governments in strengthening their policies and programmes on ageing, mainly in the following major areas: (a) social protection/social security and pension systems; (b) health and well-being into old age, such as health care, community-based support and services for older persons; and (c) development of enabling and supportive environments for ageing, including housing, transportation, etc. UNESCAP promotes the concepts of active and productive ageing throughout one’s lifecycle and of health and well-being into old age.
