UNESCAP's population programme disseminates relevant
policy information mainly through a
number of publications and supports national capacity
building through technical assistance and advisory services
to member and associate member countries.
Asian
And Pacific Decade of Disabled Persons 2003-2012 UNESCAP has organized a series of activities
on the elaboration of a comprehensive and integral international
convention on the protection and promotion of the rights
and dignity of persons with disabilities as well as workshops
and meetings on policy measures, information networking
and promoting awareness.
The Section organizes periodic regional seminars and
expert group meetings on follow-up to the World Summit
for Social Development held at Copenhagen in 1995. It
assists national capacity building through training courses
and workshops, advisory services and information dissemination.
The Section overseas UNESCAP activities in such related
areas as the family, human rights and involvement of civil
society organizations.
UNESCAP focuses on the development and strengthening
of policies required to address population ageing. It
assists Governments in strengthening their policies and
programmes on ageing, mainly in the following major areas:
(a) social protection/social security and pension systems;
(b) health and well-being into old age, such as health
care, community-based support and services for older persons;
and (c) development of enabling and supportive environments
for ageing, including housing, transportation, etc. UNESCAP
promotes the concepts of active and productive ageing
throughout one’s lifecycle and of health and well-being
into old age.
