Asia-Pacific Population
Journal zooms on Pacific
Some seven years after its first special issue on the Pacific
(see Vol. 15, No. 2), the Asia-Pacific Population Journal is back
in the sun-drenched subregion. The December 2007 issue of APPJ,
prepared in collaboration with UNFPA Country Technical Services
Team (CST) in Suva, Fiji, includes five articles on various issues
of concern for the Pacific; from the demographic impact of HIV/AIDS
in Papua New Guinea, to the current status of sexual and reproductive
health in the subregion, from the differential mortality among
Pacific countries and areas, to a discussion on the pro-poor policies
needed in the Pacific. Ahead of the 2010 round of population censuses,
the issue of availability, accessibility and utilization of demographic
data is also covered by the last article published in this issue.
Apart from articles kindly contributed by the above CST, this
issue of APPJ also includes articles from the Secretariat of the
Pacific Community; the University of Queensland Herston, Australia;
and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Pacific Centre.
For a comprehensive picture of the population-related issues confronting
this part of the world, don’t miss this particular issue
of APPJ, which is available from <www.unescap.org/appj.asp>
