Dr. A.T.P.L. Abeykoon, Director of the Population Division,
Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka retired recently after 37 years
of government service in the population field.
An eminent demographer with graduate training in population studies
from Cornell and Michigan, Mr. Abeykoon has contributed immensely
to the field of demography in Sri Lanka and in the formulation
and implementation of population policies and strategies. Mr.
Abeykoon has also served as a consultant to the governments of
Bangladesh and Viet Nam and as a short-term consultant to the
Population Division of ESCAP. He can be contacted by e-mail at

From UNFPA, various movements of international staff have been
recorded over the past few months. From Headquarters, Delia Barcelona
has been appointed as Representative to Mongolia, effective from
12 August 2005. In addition, Jean-Louis Rallu, UNFPA/CST Advisor
has been appointed to Fiji, starting from 15 October. Sandra Rotzinger
is a new JPO appointed at the Asia and Pacific Division of UNFPA,
effective 3 October.
