New publications on HIV/AIDS released
The United Nations Population Division has recently released two
new publications on HIV/AIDS; a wall chart entitled “Population
and HIV/AIDS 2005” and a report entitled “Population,
Development and HIV/AIDS, with Particular Emphasis on Poverty”.
The wall chart presents the latest available data on HIV/AIDS for
all countries and regions of the world, including information on
government policies and programmes for the prevention of the disease
and the treatment, care and support of persons affected by it.
The report provides a comprehensive look at the determinants and
social and economic impact of HIV/AIDS, how HIV and AIDS affects
and is affected by the demographic components of population growth,
mortality, fertility and migration, and how governments and the
international community are responding to the epidemic.
The publications show that in spite of progress in introducing comprehensive
HIV/AIDS prevention strategies to raise awareness and change risky
behaviours, national and international responses remain inadequate
to address the severity of the epidemic.
Both publications are available for free downloading from www.unpopulation.org
