Parliamentarians link population to MDGs
The Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development
(AFPPD) recently organized an international conference on health
issues.
Entitled the International Medical Parliamentarians Conference with
Asian Focus: MDGs, Poverty and Health: Connecting Parliamentarians
with Ground Reality, the meeting was held at Kuala Lumpur in December
2004.
The Conference brought together 120 parliamentarians with a medical
background from 27 countries in Asia and the Pacific as well as
other regions. Also participating were experts from WHO, UNICEF,
the Japanese Organization for International Cooperation in Family
Planning and the International Planned Parenthood Federation.
Discussions focused on the MDGs, health, development policy, reproductive
health, adolescent reproductive health and development, HIV/AIDS
and maternal and child health. and gender, as well as panel discussions
on the realties of poverty and health and the role of parliamentarians,
among others.
