Phayao has an overall area of 6,355 square kilometers and is administratively divided into 7 districts and 2 sub-districts: Muang Phayao, Chun, Chiang Kham, Chaing Muan, Dok Kham Tai, Pong, Mae Chai, Phu Kam Yao sub-district and Phu Sang sub-district.  Phayao is located 690 kilometers from Bangkok.
