  1. Opening of the Seminar.
  2. Election of officers.
  3. Adoption of the agenda.
  4. Review of the outcome of the Second World Assembly on Ageing and the regional Macao Plan of Action.
  5. Review of the situation in the region and beyond:
    (a) Demographic changes in Asia and the Pacific;
    (b) 2002 ESCAP survey on ageing;
    (c) Lessons and experiences of other regions.
  6. Major priority areas for action:
    (a) Ageing and development;
    (b) Health and well-being into old age;
    (c) Enabling and supportive environments;
    (d) Implementation and progress review.
  7. Consideration of a regional implementation strategy.
  8. Closing of the Seminar.

  • Report on 2002 ESCAP survey on ageing
    The 2002 regional survey on ageing reviewed the current situation of older persons in the Asian and Pacific region and analyse future directions to derive a regional strategy for the implementation of international, regional and national commitments on ageing. The findings and analysis
    contained in the report were based on information available from 29 countries and areas. The sources of data being
    used for this survey analysis included responses to the survey questionnaire, data from national studies, reports
    and governmental statements at the Second World Assembly on Ageing (Madrid, April 2002).
