Brief history

JPU is one of the leading groups of senior citizens in Japan. It strives to improve older peoples’ lives and defend their rights. JPU was established on 30 August 1989, starting with 12,696 members, 24 prefectures’ committees, and 284 branches. Now, it consists of about 53,000 members, 650 branches and 47 prefectural headquarters, which operate under the central headquarter in Tokyo. JPU is affiliated with the National Confederation of Trade Unions (Zenroren) and cooperate with workers in Japan.

• To establish social security systems based on the responsibility of the corporations as well as the government, which include proper pension schemes, medical care systems, old age care and welfare systems which will guarantee healthy and cultural lives in old age

Brief history

Anugraha is a national level NGO dedicated to improving the lives of the poor, destitute and neglected persons. Serving rural communities in four states of India, it has a comprehensive network at grassroot level. Registered as a society in October 2000, Anugraha was born out of a humanitarian concern and field experiences of a group of people. The organization aims to advocate for the well-being of older persons and to provide a worldwide forum on ageing issues

Brief history

AP&SF had its origin in 1933 with the establishment of the NSW Old Age and Invalid Pensioners Association. The national body was established in 1956, originally as the Australian Pensioners’ Federation. It is a network of affiliated autonomous State, regional and national consumer organizations. It represents 44,000 individuals and membership includes pensioners, state superannuants, retired unionists and older women. It is run by an executive of older people elected by its affiliated groups.

Brief history

CWC was established in 1948 as an immediate measure to provide relief and assistance to people displaced and made homeless as a result of World War II. CWC is one of the oldest voluntary organizations in Malaysia and plays an active role in providing various welfare programmes and services particularly for older people, including extension work for the care of older persons and day-care centres for older persons. In addition, services include mini-hostels for needy pupils and young factory girls in urban areas, and sheltered workshops for disabled people.

• To advise on how to deal with social problems in Malaysia
• To initiate or execute any proven or experimental social welfare services not operated by any other authority or organization
• To secure the practical help and support of the public and the Government
• To promote the welfare of people with mental and physical disabilities, the underprivileged, the distressed and the destitute, and to undertake or assist in the promotion of any scheme conducive to such welfare

Brief history

CeLRRd is a voluntary organization aiming to develop into a movement. In Nepal, as no law nor policy has been formulated vis-a-vis older people including the destitute and rural older people, CeLRRd is primarily concerned with rural and destitute older persons.

Brief history
