OF ACTIONS |
|
To
promote policies and programmes to enable women to plan
an active role as both agents and beneficiaries of development,
ESCAP convenes intergovernmental and expert group meetings
on various issues in the field of gender and development
and organizes training workshops to improve the mainstreaming
of gender concerns in all aspects of development. These
are Plan of Actions and Accords which were adopted at
the meetings convened by ESCAP on different areas concerning
gender and development.
- Jakarta
Declaration for the Advancement of Women in Asia
and the Pacific
(14 June 1994)
Adopted at the Second Asian and Pacific Ministerial
Conference on Women in Development. This Declaration
became a regional input for the Fourth World Conference
on Women which was held in Beijing, China 1995.
- Promoting
Women's Participation in Economic Development in
Indochina
(22-24 January 1996)
Adopted at the Indochina Seminar on Promoting Women's
Participation in Economic Development at the Workshop
Center of the National Institute of Hygiene and
Epidemiology, Hanoi, Viet Nam in collaboration with
the Viet Nam Women's Union (VWU) to promote women's
economic participation in economic development in
three Indochina countries in the light of a changing
economic environment.
- Plan
of Action for promotion of women-owned small businesses
in Indocina (24 January 1998)

Adopted at the subregional seminar on "Women
in Small Businesses in Indochina" at Ho Chi
Minh City, Viet Nam. The seminar was aimed to develop
measures to promote women in small businesses to
better equip them to enter into self-employment
and to manage more effectively their businesses
operations in the Indochina countries, namely, Cambodia,
Lao People’s Democratic Republic, and Viet
Nam.
- Bangkok
accord and plan of action to combat trafficking
in women (4 November 1998)

Adopted at the Regional Conference on Trafficking
in Women in Bangkok organized by ESCAP, the International
Labour Organization, the International Organization
for Migration, the National Commission on Women’s
Affairs of Thailand and the Asian Women’s
Fundconference. The accord represents a regional
consensus on joint action needed at national, subregional
and regional levels to tackle trafficking in women.
- Regional
Plan of Action for the alleviation of feminization
of poverty (7 July 1999)

Adopted at the ESCAP/Grameen Bank Regional Meeting
in the Empowerment of Women in Poverty in Dhaka.
This Plan of Action emphasizes that empowerment
of women in poverty constitutes one of the main
objectives of all development efforts and recognizes
that the rights of women in poverty are fundamental
human rights.
- Asian
Women's Plan of Action for a Culture of Peace (9
December 2000)

Adopted at the Regional Conference on Asian Women
for a Culture of Peace, held at Hanoi, from 6 to
9 December 2000. The Conference was organized jointly
by ESCAP and UNESCO at the invitation of the Socialist
Republic of Viet Nam to celebrate the International
Year for the Culture of Peace and to usher in the
International Decade for a Culture of Peace and
Non-violence for the Children of the World (2001-2010),
as well as the International Year of the Dialogue
among Civilizations and the International Year of
Mobilization against Racism, Xenophobia, and other
related Intolerance (2001).
