YEAR OF ESTABLISHMENT:
• 1985 (called the National Committee for the Women's
Decade)
• 1993 (recalled the National Committee for the Advancement
of Women in Vietnam)
ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE:

OBJECTIVES AND FUNCTIONS:
Objective:
Strive for gender equality and advancement of Vietnamese
women.
Functions:
- Advise the Prime Minister to develop and monitor the implementation
of National Strategy and Plan of Action for the Advancement
of Vietnamese Women; collaborate with concerned agencies
to make proposals to the Prime Minister on formulating laws
and policies related to gender equality and women's advancement.
- Coordinate with relevant agencies to promote and monitor
the implementation of laws and policies related to women
at ministries, branches and provinces.
- Coordinate with concerned agencies to disseminate and
advocate implementation of laws and policies related to
women and the UN convention on the Elimination of All forms
of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW); take a leading
role in preparing periodic national reports on the implementation
of CEDAW in Vietnam.
- Be a focal point in the international cooperation on gender
equality and women's advancement.
MAIN INITIATIVES, ACTIVITIES, PROJECTS, PROGRAMMES:
- Cooperating with concerned ministries, central agencies
to direct the implementation of the National Strategy for
the Advancement of Women in Vietnam by 2010 and Plan of
Action for the Advancement of Women in Vietnam by 2005 at
all levels.
- Directing activities for the advancement of women.
- Conducting regular monitoring of activities for the Advancement
of women at ministries, central agencies, provinces and
cities.
- Implementing operational capacity building for the advancement
of women.
- Participating in researching and formulating laws and
policies related to women.
- Preparing the 5th and 6th combined National Report on
CEDAW implementation.
- Implementing the project VIE01/015/01 " Support to
the National Machinery for the Advancement of Women to Mainstream
Gender in National Policy and Programs" (2002-2004)
supported by UNDP and the Royal Netherlands Embassy.
- Implementing the programme on enhancing capacity building
for female cadres at administrative levels and elective
bodies.
- Maintaining the Gender network at branch-ministerial level.
- Secretariat to the Gender Action Partnership (GAP)- GAP
is an inclusive partnership that aims to involve representatives
of all key government, non-government, bilateral, multilateral
and UN agencies, established in 1999.
