OBJECTIVES AND FUNCTIONS:

Objectives:

Increase women’s access throughout their:
* life cycle to appropriate, affordable and quality health care, information’s related services.
* Increase Community awareness of the importance of Human and Legal Rights.
* Educational Programmes on Women’s role in caring for the environment.
* Advise and assist Women’s Organization and Community Groups on request in the formulation of Women’s programmes and projects.
* Coordinating programmes and activities concerning Women and collaborating with other line departments, private sectors, in

i) the collection, organization and dissemination of information
ii) evaluation of all projects effecting Women.

* Establish and Register of all Women’s Groups and Organizations in the country.
* Help develop and implement training programmes on gender awareness.
* Promote a better understanding and friendship among professional
* Establish networking with the various agencies to increase public awareness on healthier lifestyles.
* Develop a policy plan for the Women of Nauru in close consultations with all stakeholders.
* Perform other duties as requested by the Chief Secretary.

Functions

* To support government mainstreaming of a gender equality perspective in all policy areas.
* To get Government’s full blessing for the Unit in the provision of financial and institutional arrangements, to ensure it’s continuity.

MAJOR ACTIVITIES:

* Women’s participation at the National Economic Summit.
* Celebration of International Women’s Day.
* Provide Training Programme in Hospitality and Public Relations.
* Provide programmes for adolescent mothers, e.g.problems associated with teenage pregnancies (interrupted education and low chances of education).
* A counselling service.
* Integrate Gender Balance into all government agendas, policies and programmes.
* Educational programmes on:

i) Waste Management
ii) Water Management
iii) Anti-Littering Campaign


iv) Sensitive use of national resources
v) Lobby for a “well Woman Clinic.”
