YEAR OF ESTABLISHMENT:

The Center for Women Participation was previously called as Bureau of Women Affairs. It was upgraded to the center pursuant to an order by President Mohammad Rhatami in 1997.

LEGISLATIVE AUTHORITY:

Approval of the Administrative and Employment Affairs Organization on February 25, 1998.

OBJECTIVES AND FUNCTIONS:

* Promoting women’s contribution in different areas through scientific and expert studies and providing legislature and government with practical strategies to encourage women’s participation.
* Examining practical ways for promotion of women’s managerial role in the society and in the family.
* Giving advisory recommendations to the president for improving women situation.
* To promote awareness of women’s non-governmental organizations on development and gender issues.
* To study and compile special programmes to eradicate violence against women.
* Upgrading scientific and practical skills of women helping them to attend at international circles.
* Studying and implementing research projects on women issues

MAJOR ACTIVITIES:

* To compile women’s role in dialogue among civilization.
* To review and implement resolutions on women and children adopted by the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).
* To establish credit institutions to support women.
* Establishment of a specialized women library and data bank.

MAJOR PUBLICATIONS:

The center has so far published ten volumes of books on women status in Australia, China, Egypt, India, Japan, Syria, Thailand, Turkey, and U.S.A. The all were published in 1998 with average pages of 100. The books are in Persian language.
