International Women's Day, which is observed worldwide on 8th March every year, will be commemorated this year on Tuesday, 8 March 2005 by the United Nations system at the United Nations Conference Centre. This year's theme, set by the United Nations New York, is "Gender Equality Beyond 2005: building a more secure future". Thus, the focul is on security, development, disaster and human rights. For this important event, UNESCAP and the interagency Thematic Working Group on Women's Empowerment and Gender Equality (TWG-WEGE) will organize a panel discussion, including and exhibition, on the theme "Rebuilding Women's Lives in the Aftermath of Disaster".
