Groundwater Assessment in Myanmar

ESCAP has provided assistance and advisory services to the Water Resources Utilization Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, Government of Myanmar, from 12-25 February 2001. Assistance was rendered in hydrological assessment, monitoring and demand/supply situation of groundwater resources in the Yinmabin area, Sagaing Division of Monywa District.

A field reconnaissance of the regional geology and hydrology regime of “Y” aquifer in the Ninety-Nine Ponds Project was also undertaken. A new series of maps have also been created to show the principle hydrogeologic characteristics of the aquifer and a set of recommendations were outlined to support the continued development of the project in this arid zone of Myanmar.
