ESCAP continues
to attach priority in
promoting closer cooperation in flood control and management in the
region, to facilitate exchange of experience and successful practices
among the countries.
In
response to the impact of the floods of 2000, ESCAP held a training
workshop on flood mitigation in Ho Chi Minh City from 26-29 March 2001,
at the request of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of
Viet Nam.
The main aim of this
workshop was to learn from past regional experiences and assist in the
formulation of mitigation strategies to counter the impact of floods in the future. Four national experts on flood management from Viet Nam as well
as invited experts from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and the Mekong River
Commission Secretariat also participated in the training workshop.
