Module 3: Communicating with Impact: Effective Listening REVISED

    Duration: 1 day
    Training dates: 8 May 2008 and 16 May 2008
    Venue: ESCAP Learning Centre, 3 rd floor of UNCC
    Facilitator: Ms. Beth Fisher-Yoshida and Ms. Nisa Attanandana
    Target Audience: GS staff who have completed parts I and II of the programme

    Objectives:
    This is a follow-up to the GSD I Programme. At the conclusion of the training, participants will be able to:






    Increase awareness of their communication style and patterns
    Increase their skills in active listening
    Practice skills to increase understanding of others and help others understand your style of communication
    Express their needs and adapt to the needs of others
    Develop ways to better tailor their communication to their targeted audience

Topics to be covered:







Understanding the importance of using observable data
Assertiveness
Becoming aware of assumptions and judgements before acting
Using active listening to explore differences and common ground to find workable alternatives
Expressing your needs in a clear and supportive way
Opening oneself to receive feedback even when the giver is unskilled
