Upgrading substantive and technical skills continues to be a priority area for staff development at ESCAP, and is becoming evermore important in the context of supporting the implementation of ESCAP's new strategic direction.
Participation in specialized training activities on an individual basis is one of the opportunities for staff members to upgrade their substantive and technical skills. As an indication of the Organization's commitment to continuous learning, and, in particular ESCAP's commitment to building capacity for implementing the newly defined objectives of the Organization, resources, although limited, have been made available for this purpose. Please keep in mind that staff development is a shared responsibility amongst the staff member, his or her manager and the Organization, and staff are expected to contribute to their own development.
Once the application period is opened, staff members are invited to submit proposals for individual trainings in substantive and technical areas that are related to the needs of the Organization as well as their professional career. There should be a clear expectation as to the outcome and impact for the Organisation's objectives and the staff member's professional development.
The proposal should be submitted in the form of a memorandum through the direct supervisor and the Division Chief to Mr. James Bradley, Chief of Human Resources. The below template assists in detailing the proposal and should be completed and enclosed with the memorandum.
The deadline for submission is now closed. The next round will open in the 4th quarter of 2008.
