Consultative Meeting of Executive Heads of Subregional Organizations and ESCAP:
Twelfth Session
Noumea, New Caledonia, 12 March 2008 (morning)
ESCAP and the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) are jointly organizing the Twelfth Session of the Consultative Meeting of Executive Heads of Subregional Organizations and ESCAP on 12 March 2008 in Noumea, New Caledonia. The overall theme of the meeting is Promoting Asia-Pacific Linkages through Regional Cooperation.
A panel discussion "Sharing Dividends of Asian High Growth through Regional Cooperation and Integration" will take place in the morning session.
One of the important outcomes of the morning session could be initiating discussions on a formal compact on Regional Cooperation Framework on Asia-Pacific (RCFAP) which the Executive Heads of all Subregional Organizations and ESCAP could consider. This proposed compact could contribute to increasing the engagement between the subregional organizations and ESCAP in fostering socio-economic growth and reducing regional disparities. The morning session will be attended by the Executive Heads of ASEAN, ECO, SAARC, PIFS and ESCAP and other subregional organizations of Asia and the Pacific as observers.
