Emerging Social Issues Division

The Emerging Social Issues Division works to identify emerging social issues, especially those that directly affect the poor and other vulnerable and disadvantaged groups of people in the region. It increases awareness and understanding of how various issues like population ageing, migration, lowered fertility rates and HIV/AIDS affect each country and the region as a whole. Special emphasis is placed on ways to empower women and prevent the stigma and discrimination faced by many persons with disabilities. More...

Perspectives on Gender and Migration

This publication contains the Seminar Outcome and discussion papers prepared by experts of the Regional Seminar on Strengthening the Capacity of National Machineries for Gender Equality to Shape Migration Policies and Protect Migrant Women, held from 22-24 November 2006 in Bangkok, Thailand.

It addresses the diverse experiences of female migrants in the ESCAP region, including the situations of migrant domestic workers, female international marriage migrants, migrants working in the garment industry and in disguised sex work.
