to develop appropriate responses, both by countries and
their development partners.

Present a paper at the meeting in Nadi on PIFS Study
"Adjusting to a Pacific Economic Partnership Agreement
- Costs and Constraints". Pacific states that are
a party to the Cotonou Agreement with the EU are due to
finalise a wide-ranging Economic Partnership Agreement
(EPA) with the EU by the end of 2007. The UN-EPOC Regional
Advisor Development Policy has assisted in this process
by preparing broad Pacific wide estimates of the adjustment
costs which may arise out of the implementation of free
trade with the EU states under this Economic Partnership
Agreement. The adjustment cost estimates are based on
information gathered in a series of country visits. The
study was undertaken for the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat.
The report on the quantum of likely adjustments costs
was presented to the Pacific Forum Trade Minister's meeting
in Vanuatu in November 2006. |
