CONFERENCE BULLETIN NO. 3 –
Rev. 1·
ELECTION OF THE GOVERNING BOARD OF
THE ASIAN AND PACIFIC CENTRE FOR AGRICULTURAL
ENGINEERING AND MACHINERY
|
The Commission decided, at its fifty-eighth
session, held in May 2002, to establish the Asian and Pacific Centre
for Agricultural Engineering and Machinery (APCAEM) at Beijing by
upgrading the Regional Network for Agricultural Engineering and
Machinery (RNAEM). In accordance
with article 10 of the Statute of APCAEM, which was adopted by
the Commission at the same session, the Governing Board of APCAEM
shall consist of one representative designated by the Government
of the host country, namely, China, and no fewer than eight representatives
nominated by other members or associate members of ESCAP. The
members of the Governing Board shall be elected for a period of
three years and shall be eligible for re-election. As the term
of the current members of the Governing Board of APCAEM, who served
during the period of transition from RNAEM to APCAEM, ends at
this session of the Commission, the Commission will elect the
new members of the Governing Board of APCAEM for the next three
years.
The cost of participation of the
Governing Board members in all meetings of the Governing Board
will be borne by the Governments concerned, as is the case with
all legislative bodies of the Commission.
To facilitate the election of the
Governing Board during this Commission session, delegations are
requested to inform the Secretary of the Commission, Mr. F.A.
Uriarte, Jr., if their Governments desire to seek election to
the Governing Board. A sample format for submission of nomination
for election of the Governing Board is attached. The receipt of
nominations will be closed at 12:00 hours on Tuesday, 22 April
2003.
Under the new arrangements
for the fifty-ninth session of the Commission as announced by
the Executive Secretary on 15 April 2003, the election
of the members of the Governing Board of APCAEM will be held in
the afternoon of Thursday, 24 April 2003 under
agenda item 8 (b). Those delegations which have not yet informed
the Secretary of the Commission of their desire to submit a nomination
are urged to do so as early as possible.
